But I’d also experienced the frustration of being critical yet invisible, of delivering excellence without recognition, and of learning the hard way that technical skills alone don’t protect your career.

When I was laid off during a merger despite flawless project delivery, I realized something fundamental: Most IT professionals are never taught how to manage their careers strategically. We’re trained to solve technical problems, not to position ourselves for advancement or communicate our value in ways executives understand.
